Todd Potasky, owner of Valley Kitchens, always wanted to be in business for himself.

A native of the Pioneer Valley and graduate of Williston and the University of Vermont, Todd started moving towards that goal in 1987 by gaining invaluable hands-on experience building his own house with his father-in-law. He developed essential connections to local contractors while working as the Assessor for the town of Easthampton and Heritage Surveys of Southampton. Todd substantially increased his knowledge of materials while fabricating Dupont Corian counter tops and then selling Corian and Zodiac for commercial applications to regional architects. About 2 years ago, after many months of preparation and research, he had enough pieces of the puzzle to jump in.

Today, Valley Kitchens is a success story with about 60% of business coming from new construction. Sales volume continues to increase every year thanks to local word-of-mouth. Always gracious about his success, Todd works collaboratively with local interior designers, lumber yards, handymen and contractors. His retail space in the Red Rock Shops is adjacent to Hampton Flooring Center, offering great synergy between the two businesses.

Todd provides customers with a small town showroom, personal service and great prices. “If you know what you’re talking about, give your customers a fair price, deliver what you say you’re going to deliver, and fix the occasional problem that might go wrong right away... people really appreciate it.” He says.

And what about competing with the large home renovation centers? “You’ve got to know your competition’s products and pricing.” Every customer that has first visited the big box stores has ended up buying from Valley Kitchens. He advises. “In my case, almost always, customers turn into friends. The big home centers can’t say that.”

Currently Valley Kitchens' staff is comprised of Todd, his wife and co-owner Kris, and designer Dick Delnickas.
